Who we are
Buxton Centre Baptist Church is a loving, welcoming family of people of all ages who are seeking to know and follow Jesus. Some of us are new to the faith, others have been Christians for our whole lives, but we all have something to learn from God and from each other. We encourage each other to dig deeply into God’s Word, ask questions, and actively grow in Christ. We are committed to serving our community and living out our mission.
The members of Buxton Centre Baptist Church have worshipped together and served the community since 1798.
Our church belongs to the American Baptist Churches USA.
What Our Church Believes
As Baptists, we are guided by the Baptist principle of “soul liberty”, which means that each person has the liberty to choose what conscience or soul dictates is right, and is responsible to no one but God for the decision that is made.
Our church is centered on the person and work of Jesus. The Bible is our authority and guide. We are empowered for mission through the Holy Spirit.
While we don’t have a statement of faith or creed, we teach that the Bible is the inspired, authoritative Word of God. God. There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the son of God. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross and shed his blood to atone for our sins, rose from the grave, ascended to the Father, and will return in power and glory. When we repent of our sins and trust Jesus to be our Savior and Lord (leader of our life), we can have confidence we are saved and are given the gift of eternal life. The Holy Spirit guides us and empowers us to live as Jesus has commanded.
